Phosphorus removal in wastewater polishing filters

The Upper Uvdal wastewater treatment plant was designed as a traditional chemical and biological treatment plant. In a polishing step, the effluent goes thru a filter bed with Filtralite Nature P before it is discharged into a small creek.
The filter bed with Filtralite Nature P has stable discharge levels far below recommended limits. After three years of operation, the treatment plant is removing 99 % of the phosphorus, with a discharge concentration of 0,06 mg/l.
